Port Engine no start

Hello, I have a Carver Santego 31 with twin 350 Crusader XL motors. The port engine stalled on our way back to marina and will not start. Engine turns over fine and can hear fuel pump running.
Observations: noticed when first turning ignition key the tachometer jumps up an down and the Engine Sync gauge will jump over to port side. Problem seems very intermittent as 1 in 10 times it will start and keep running. After stopping and restarting the problem comes back. We have replaced start relay, ignition coil ,dist cap, rotor and get the same results. Any thoughts where to look next, thanks.Thinking maybe a shorted tach?

you can remove the tach lead at either end for your test....just make sure you tape it up.

If that isn't the issue, I'd get out a spark tester is see if you have spark.

i will try the tach lead suggestion. i have a spark tester and observed there is a spark from coil to distibutor. There is not always a spark observed from the the ignition wires on dist cap to plugs. I am thinking spark is not strong enough to jump across the dist cap rotor. we have replaced dist cap, rotor ,ignition coil .
The tach jumping is a mystery and believe this is the problem why engine does not start. Some times after many tries the tach will not jump and engine will start.

The EST system makes a decent spark...when it is working properly...

their typical failures are the pickup coil and the module.

potentially....lots of variables involved...i wouldn't say a transient tach deflection at power up is a definitive indicator of anything...

get a real GM part if you can....not all of the aftermarket parts work as intended when running without an ECU...

Problem resolved. It was the igntition relay located on side of engine hidden behind the igntion plug wires.
makoamak, thanks for your help.
