poppet valve

i have a 40hp merc 402 2cyl ser #3728333 . my poppet valve is shot and beyond repair. every where i look it says it,s obsolete. what do i do? can i run it without and just a t-stat. it would be a shame to toss the hole motor over a poppet. help! thanks

I can't find the serial number in a parts list...lowest number begins w/a 5. I'll bet the same valve assy. was used for years. Try a different SN and year; it may just work. Which part of the assy. do you need? Valve, spring or diapragm?

i need the hole assembly. took it out and it was like dust. might be able to save the spring.

It looks like the one I just replaced in my 2002 115 hp. Talk to an older experienced dealer...they may know what fits or even have some NOS parts.

Do you have all your correct part numbers you would need for new items yet?

Seaway marine in seattle washington @ 206-937-7373 may have them. If they don't have one of the parts in stock then ask them if they could locate one for you.

Leave the darn thing out--unless you spend most of your time trolling (which few people do with a Merc 40 hp).
