poor running engine followed by flat battery symptoms

Hi, a recent trip out on the rib with my DF70 started well, after approx fifteen miles out in the solent the engine sounded like it was running on three cylinders Engine was reluctant to run on four cylinders until given a lot more throttle. This was a repeating pattern on this trip. No warning lights or buzzers at all.
Engine was slow to turn over after a forty minute lunch stop. Later the engine wouldn't start, just the starter soleniod clicking when we tried to put boat onto trailer. battery had power to lift TTP as normal. Sorry for the story, any advice greatly appreciated

Week battery? Fully charge the battery and get it load tested. Corrosion somewhere in the starting circuit? Engine not charging the battery? With the engine off whats the voltage at the battery? With the engine running whats the voltage at the battery?

Thanks for the advice, i will follow your advice and give feedback after my next visit to "boaty" on the 10th July. sounds like i should purchase a multi meter ?

Yes, you will need it. If you plan on doing your own maintenance and repairs consider a genuine Suzuki service manual also. Older model manuals can be found online in pdf form for $10-$15, newer models are $100ish in paper.

Hi, i had the boat battery load tested at local garage and it was "bad". Fitted a brand new battery and cleaned all cable connections, end of good news. Engine will not turn over just getting the starter solenoid clicking. Now probably beyond my capabilities and have left a message with my illusive mobile mechanic,

While you’re waiting for your mechanic you could be checking wires from the starter back to the battery, both positive and negative leads. Look for loose, corroded and “crusty” wires. Check the grounds are tight and clean. You didn’t mention the year of your engine

William, my engine appears to be seized, i can't move the flywheel even with all four spark plugs out. I was mortified to find one spark plug wet with water droplets on the electrode and going rusty. This sounds bad to say the least
thanks
Phil

Doesn’t sound promising. Make sure the lower unit isn’t preventing the engine from turning over. Propeller should spin in neutral.
