"Just bought a new Party barge

"Just bought a new Party barge 24, with an Outbard 60hp EFI, bigfoot 4cycl. Took it to the lake several times w/o performance issues.

Past 2 weeks that i have taken the boat out the RPMS dont even hit 3800 when they averaged 5500 full throttle. On both occasions i went ahead and took the boat out. After about 10 mins of steady running, the RPM's picked up and the engine went to 5500rpms w/o any performance issues. It reminded me startign my old V6 in winter, took awhile to get going.

If the motor tho is off and alowed to "Cool" then the problem returns and takes about 10 mins for it to clear again. But doesnt occur if the motor is only off for 30 or less.

Boat has never been in salt water, is rinsed after each use, never hung up, no fuel additives, Unleaded gas only from Chevron. Fuel filter has been already changed, dont see free water in the tank, fuel tank has been bled, no debris seen in the fuel pumped out. Motor doesnt smoke, nor make funny sounds or such.

My father in law, Auto Mechanic, claims its vapor lock and nothign i can do. Any other ides, realy dont think my Father in law is right

"first off do you have a book on your motor ?
efi's don't have that problem as they inject the gas into the cylinder directly.most use a ccs along with ecm for engine control.
use a logical troubleshooting because all sensors
are pricey. Mechanically motors are mostly the same
1)start your checks with compression.
2)Make sure you have good fuel flow no restrictions and no leaks.
3)check you battery under load.but do not remove!
4)check charging system with motor running make sure you have spec voltage
5)check for any loose or corroded connections make sure there tight and clean. Look for any burn spots, insulation breaks. Last but not least use a dielectric grease to prevent corrosion. For your problem I would look really hard at this. You have an intermittent problem
6)before you remove battery check for any Ecm codes for this you will need to have a ddt for mercs, but you can get by with out it if you use an orderly trouble shooting get a book and go step by step

I hope this helps

"Bad grounds are common on these. The factory likes to goop a lot of paint under the ring terminals and the top two valve cover bolts.
I would also like to see 6000 RPM at full bore. Maybe a little less prop.Wait until the motor breaks in for a while before you change that, though. "
