1966 Californian with twin 350

1966 Californian with twin 350 Crusaders. Both engines normally idle at 600rpm in gear. However tonight the starboard engine would climb and hold at 1200 to 1500 rpm then spike to 2100 rpm and bounce around these numbers. The engine however would not change and was not fluctuating as the tach was indicating....Huh????

I replace alot of older tachs in my repair work, they just fail. I usaully go to a marine slavage place by two tachs cheap, problem solved. SOmetimes its wiring etc, but most times, the guts just fail."

"I just spent a few hours chasing wires, cutting connectors off and re-splicing. Same problem. No change. Placed my dwell meter/ tach on the coil and was reading good. Problem in the tach or bad ground???"
