"i have a 1996 mercury 200 EFI, pretty much narrowed it down to the fuel pump inside the vapor separator. im getting 12v to the pump but cant hear or feel the pump working. My question is the pump servicable or will i have any luck finding a new or used one somewhere?"

"No, you just replace it. New

"No, you just replace it. New ones are about $600 IIRC. The electrial circuit here is weird. There will always be 12 volts on both sides of that pump with the engine off. It is on a duty cycle under 3000RPM from the ECU that controls the negitive side. What you need to do is take the ECU wire off the pump and hook the pump to the ground. Don't ground out the ECU lead or else. And see if it runs."

"Greg,
If your pump is frozen

"Greg,
If your pump is frozen you can remove it from the VST and using some jumpers hooked directly to the battery swap the leads between the positve and negative poles on the fuel pump. Both of my pumps were frozen and i was able to free them up by doing this. Also, squirt some VALVE TECH MOTOR DECRB into the fuel inlet on the
bottom of the pump and let it sit for a day or so and try the jumper route again. You will need to run a fuel pressure test if you free it up to make sure the pump is actually operating not just running. I have a pump that is running , but not providing fuel pressure."

"Greg,
Let me modify my previ

"Greg,
Let me modify my previous post. You don't have to remove the fuel pump from the VST. Make sure you don't have any fuel leaks. Connect one end of one jumper to the positve battery cable on the starter solenoid and one end of the other jumper to a good engine ground. MAKE SURE TO DISCONNECT THE POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE LEADS FROM THE PUMP TO THE ECM BEFORE HOOKING UP THE JUMPERS . Then try touching the jumpers to the positive and negative pump post. Then swap the jumpers between the positve and negative pump posts. That pump will run in reverse.
If there is any gum or trash in the pump by reversing the pump direction you may be able to free it up. Don't leave the jumpers hooked to the post just swap the contacts to make the motor
changes directions. Back and forth / back and forth. If that doesn't do it you can remove the
pump from the VST and lightly tap the pump body with a rubber mallet and then try the jumper back/forth routine with the jumpers hooked directly to the battery. By jumpers I mean small wires (maybe 16ga. with alligator clips). It took me 6 days to get one pump freed up. If the pump begins to run you will still need to perform a fuel pressure test to see if the pump is pressurizing the system. Good luck.}"

Thx for the help guys i'll
