I have a couple of Questions

I have a couple of Questions concerning a motor I recently bought. Its a 40 yamaha 88 model. 1st when running at full throttle its showing almost 16 volts on the meter almost pegged when I slow down or cut on lights etc it drops is this normal or is it putting out too much voltage. 2nd where is the water supposed to exit from the motor. I removed the cowling and there is a small fitting where it looks like it should exit nothing hooked to it. With a motor flusher hooked up water is coming out the exhaust and the smaller port near the cowl. It does not appear to be running hot at all even after running alot. Please help thanks

" I think if your talking about the exhaust port on the shaft thats on the back of the motor. I had that question too and was told that is fine. More water enters the motor than the pee hole thing lets out, so its comes out of that exhaust hole also its normal.

and for your volts, ide say dont worry about it, but i dont know if thats right or not, i think its cause your motor is charging your battery.

" suzuki's and yamamha's in the 80's did not always have a pee hole , the water circulated from up behind the prop and exited underneath the engine. evan though your engine is charging the battery I'm not sure that is supposed to go that high. "

"dta,

I think you have an electrical problem somewhere. The voltage should be around 14 or 14.5 maximum. It could be a faulty regulator, but I would first make sure the voltmeter is accurate.
