"I HAVE A 1974 JOHNSON115 OUTBOARD MOTOR. WHEN I HOOK UP THE BATTERY, THE TERMINALS SPARK MASSIVLY, AND THE CONNECTIONS GET SUPERHOT AND CHERRY RED. WHAT IS WRONG"

Short circuit somewhere. You are lucky you did not ignite the gas (hydrogen) from you battery and blow it up.

But pls dont SHOUT!
 
unplug starter and if there st

unplug starter and if there still some bad spark just chech if you plug the batteri on the good side or chech if the are no positif wire touching a ground
