Please help with Coils

The PORT motor RUNS and has the following:
CDI Looper CD 4/8 113-3101
Coils 7990038 14A2-OA

The STBD motor has no spark and does not use a Looper.
Coils: 582508 OA 12T31
582508 OA 12T31

Question: what does the Looper do and should use one on the stbd motor?, also wich coils should I use? "

"Ray.... The serial number doesn't help any. There should be a plate on the port (left) transom bracket that lists both the model & serial number. The model number is what we would need to determine the year and hp.

I don't know what you mean by the statement "The STBD motor has no spark and does not use a Looper." A "Looper" is a nickname that many of us use when refering to a Loop Charged engine. The statement of "what does the Looper do and should use one on the stbd motor?, also which coils should I use?" leaves me out in the dark somewhat.

If you're speaking of switching coils, in all probability, that would be okay but we would need to know what engines we're speaking of.

The no spark engine... Remove the spark plugs. Now, disconnect the main large red electrical plug at the engine. Crank the engine by using a small jumper wire from the battery side of the starter solenoid to the 3/8" hex nut on the solenoid (not the 3/8" ground nut).

If you now have spark, You have either a short in the instrument cable or a failed ignition switch. Replace the ignition switch and try again. If still no spark, disconnect the "Black/Yellow" wire at the powerpack(s) and try again. If you have spark now, there is a short in the engine harness.

If none of the above are any help, either the stator under the flywheel has melted down, cracked, failed for some reason, or the powerpack has failed. Note that the stator is the beginning of the charging and ignition system. Let us know what you find.
