"That is a 1983 model - but the serial, which is just a production number gives no other information.

The motor could be anything from a 2 horse upto a 250.

The number of cylinders plus one of the casting numbers off a carb will help determine what it is.

Look on one of the carbs for a number cast right into it. It should be a WM.... (such as WMK-30 etc).

For this to be a 90 horse or more it would have to be an inline 6 cylinder."

The motor is an inline 6 cyl!I'll have to get back later with the carb numbers.I also have a serial # from the engine itself.I don't know if it will help at all but here it is#4868675.I'm not sure if the first number is a 4 or A it was hard to read.
Thank you Graham for the info!

"James, that number makes it a 1978 model - but Merc's don't really have serials. They are actually production numbers that contain zero information in and of themself.

You have to compare the production number to the lists from the Merc plant that built (or assembled) it, to see what year it left the factory - no other information is contained or associated with that number.

While unlikely it's possible that the next production number after yours could be on a twin cylinder 7.5 horse motor...."

ok because the stripe's are light and dark brown they told me the motor was a 87 but i like to find stuff out lik ethis for myself then i know what i got

That's enough - only need

That's enough - only need 1 of them.

The WMK-14's were used on the 150 horse.

That would make that serial a model 1500XS
