Please Help engine identification?

This is the number at the front of the engine near the water pump, i thought i had identified it as an AQ231 5.0L, but i'm having doubts?

The previous owner said it was a 5.0L but he was not 100%.....

The engine apparently is a Volvo Penta, but this is fitted in a Draco 2500 TC and was built around 1985, there was some paperwork with the boat but over the years got damp and could give no further clues, any help would be gratefully received, this has been driving me nuts for weeks!

If the pic is from the block boss above the LH water pump boss (looking at the water pump), I'd say an early 1980's 305 is a reasonable conclusion...could also be a replacement from a road application.

The block Casting Numbers can also be used to assess the displacement.
