"I've got a 2007 crusader

"I've got a 2007 crusader "powerpack" 350 ci carbed engine. It has a holley carb on it and I don't know the model, but you can see the pic on the crusader website. I want to understand what the secondaries are, what the butterflies are, how to "disconnect the linkage" and make it an "efficient 2 barrel" if I wanted to. I've got an idle adjustment screw and two air mix screws. Is that the only thing that can be adjusted? Where is the sight hole, how do you adjust the floats? Where are the jets? One day, I will get 1mpg, but I've not figured it out yet.
What carbs are the most fuel efficient for these 350's?"

I suggest you buy a pamphlet o

I suggest you buy a pamphlet on Holley carbs that are sold at auto performance stores or speed shops.

"Steve, since adding fuel flow

"Steve, since adding fuel flow meters to the chartplotter, I have watched the fuel consumption and mileage run up and down the scale from GEE to GEE WHIZ....2.2gal/h to 34 gal/h. 4.nmpg to 2.2 nmpg. It has so much to do with currents as well as the engines that an average will probably take a full season to get mildly close..Last week, the bay in NJ was as MIRROR flat as I had ever seen it....Yesterday, choppy and flowing. My display would read 0.0 kts. at drift compared to 1.9 kts. at drift. Certainly a great idea to know the carbs inside and out to tweak em as necessary"

"Steve:

I'd suggest starting here:
http://holley.com/TechService/Library.asp

Their library covers the basics. Jeff's suggestion about one of the many books is also great - I'd start with your local library first.

I'd also say you don't want to disconnect the secondaries but maybe adjust their operating point. depending upon your model, you may have more than one option.

Also, read the tuning section on Holley's site. The tech service group in KY is very knowledgable, too. Make sure you have a good understanding of how it works before doing any mod. Last item is to keep the 'marine mods' in place; they are there for a good reason."

"Please don’t mess with anythi

"Please don’t mess with anything on your carbs. Do not take the secondary off!!!!!!!
I spoke to one of the engineers at Crusader and he said most of our boats are speed boats and are more fuel efficient at plan and that means the secondary will need to come on.
He also said that most of us will not plan till we hit 14-16 nots at about 2300-3000 rpm’s
I tested this last week. I did 10-12 nots with the current and I was using 6-8 gallons per hour on my flow scan then I got it up to 16-18 nots and got it to plan and at my surprise I was only at 8-10 gallons and hour. Not much of a difference. Whatever it’s worth don’t mess with the carb, get it adjusted to your boats spec’s but other then that leave it alone."
