Play on Lower Unit

Remove and inspected my lower

Remove and inspected my lower unit on a 1982 115HP Johnson and i am getting the following play

driveshaft - axial play (up/down) maybe a 1/16"
radial (side/side) 0.009"

prop shaft - axial play (in/out) maybe 1/8to3/16"
radial (side/side) 0.009"

are these acceptable play? or i need to change the bearings?

remove the bearing housing and look at the bearing in them and they seem fine. but how can you tell the wear on needle bearings?

"Ed..... I wouldn't be concerned about the driveshaft play. The 3/16" propshaft play is a little much and could be contributed to a slightly worn thrust washer and/or bearing. However, If that lower unit has been shifting okay and is not leaking... in effect has been operating fine, I'd wait until a problem develops before tearing it down.
