Plastic tube on foot

Got a rope tangled in prop and then saw this plastic line that I don't ever remember seeing before. The nipple that it attaches to is still there and ICan easily reattach but I dint remember it being that long. Did it come loose on the other end? How can I tell? Is it a water line or what?

It is the tube that goes to your speedometer. It picks up the water pressure from a very small hole on the lower front of your lower unit. It is run up through that vertical shaft with your shift shaft. It comes out the top, then there are several ways to route it, depending on your engine.

It does seem to have a larger loop than needed. You could pull up some of the excess by pulling the hose up at the top of the swivel case.

Thanks Mike so even if it has come loose up top somewhere it won't harm the engine to run it this weekend?

If the other end came loose, water will come out of it while you are underway. As long as that end is not somewhere inside the engine cover, it will not harm the engine.

Interesting, when I had my BF250 installed I asked if there was a water pressure gauge or water pressure value output to my MFD. I was told Honda does not provide this but I could run a hose from the tube in front of the lower unit (the hose you refer to) and then install a mechanical water pressure gauge. I declined as I had a similar setup on my Yamamerc and the hose got punctured near the engine cable/wire housing and scared the heck out of us when we were 35 miles off shore. We thought it was a fuel leak.

So the installer cut the hose short and put a plug barb (looks like one used for drip sprinkler systems) in the hose. No leak for 200+ hours.
