well ill start from the begining i was givin a boat from my granpa he stoped using it because it needed a new throttle control box so he just bought a new boat it ran fine before he parked it. it sat for about five years and i bought a new box and put it on and put it in the shop to have the carbs cleaned and have them just look it over and i was told that two of the pistons are scored and the motor is no good just doesnt make sense it ran fine before it was parked and he also told me it was a 115 the cowlen says 90 and thats what we always thought it was

OMC's are amazing engines.

OMC's are amazing engines. They can run pretty well with a fair amount of scoring. My 235 was down to 60 and 0 on two cylinders. Still didn't run all that bad!

How did they come to that conclusion?
Did they tear down the whole engine?
You would have to do a complete tear down to look at a scored piston!

"Find another shop - whether or not the pistons are scored doesn't make the motor "no good" - and yes, they could have been scored for a while and Grandpa didn't notice any perceivable change in performance.

I just finished up a total rebuild on a V4 Johnson (140 looper) a little while ago.

Carb kits/powerhead gaskets/seals etc, under 200 bucks.

4 new pistons, rings, bearings, about 400 bucks

new powerpack and regulator (had them so why not - I had it all torn down), about 100 bucks

and 200 bucks at the machine shop to have the cylinders holes repunched.

Less than 1000 bucks - have a like new engine that would cost over 12K to replace (new) - saved on the labour by doing almost all of it myself.

Other option - rebuilt powerhead for a V4 OMC can be found from many reputable sources for about 2500 bucks, ready to bolt on...."
