Pertronix Ignitor lll system upgrade from std. Points/Condenser distributor

Needing HELP,

I’ve experienced after Adding a Pertronix Ignition lll upgrade from the std. point/condenser ignition, I can shift into gear, forward or reverse no problem. It’s when you pull the gear shift back to neutral that the engine dies immediately, having to restart. Man this system, I should have never bought and installed, my own feelings. The points have never really been a problem in 43 years I’ve owned this 1977 SeaRay SRV-187. I researched Pertronix Diode fix for OMC outdrives, but none listed for Mercruiser Stern Drives. I did call Pertronix Tech line, Chris told me it worked fine on Mercruisers without the Diode Fix. I say hog wash to that. The boat runs without dying with the old system, so QUESTION: Should I go back to the working original system, or try theDiode
Thx, MERCRUISERMIKE

First, as suggested, make sure that the lower shift cable is OK and that it is adjusted correctly.

Once that has been confirmed, make quick and decisive shifts from gear back into neutral.
In other words, don't dog it.

See if that helps!
