"NEW TO THE SITE BUT THERE&#39

"NEW TO THE SITE BUT THERE'S A TON OF INFO HERE AND IT IS A REAL HELP. ANY WAY I PURCHASED A 79 PENN TAN 24XE A COUPLE OF WKS. AGO AS A PROJECT BOAT THAT OVER ALL JUST NEED (TLC,TIME LOT'SA CASH)BUT THEY ALL DO FOR THAT MATTER. So I'm in the replacement stage, exhaust, fuel lines and a tune up and I hope to be up and running.
So my first question at beggin for help is how to you tell a 318 from a 360? Can't find the ID tag anywhere where Chrysler said it woul be top or back. "Although I think it's a 360 as the electric gizmo box says 250HP." Some where out here it cyber space I saw a post saying 250 horses came with the 360. But I dun'know. Next question is not on the engine but it's on the tranny. It's a Velvet Drive 71 Series which I know squat about as all my other boats were paragons and 1 Allison. Never had a boat this new. So my delma with the VD71 is, I get it home drain out about 2 QTS. of a milky pink substance. So I'm really lookin for some help on this one. What type of fluid and how much??? The motor ran and the tranny spun when I picked the boat up. So I guess I'm hope'in for the best that maybe water got in through the dip stick or at worst the heat exchanger for tranny has given up the ghost. So I hope someone out there can solve some of my PENN YAN BLUES at this site. Thanks for the help. PILOTNOMORE OR just Jack
PS IT'S STILL A PRETTY NEAT SITE FOR INFO!!!!!!

The 360 has a larger crank dam

The 360 has a larger crank damper bolt. The 318 bolt is about 1 1/8 (socket size). You'll need a knonw 318 or 360 to compare the two.

"The milky pink fluid means water in your tranny oil. There are only 2 ways in. Through the dipstick if the boat took on water or more likely, from a hole inside the trans oil cooler. Pressure test it."

Thanks for the info guys. 1&a

Thanks for the info guys. 1&1/4 bolt and tranny oil cooler holding fluid no leaks but gon'na give it a pressure test. Can this be done with a few fittings and a gauge? Or do I need to find a company aroud here that does this service. I'm in Panama
city FL. No luck in the phone book locating a vendor that can do it.
Once again thanks for the input!
