Pee hole?

I have a 1973 Johnson 115hp. I’m wondering if I could put a newer head on one side and add a telltale. Does anyone have any advice if it’s not possible I recently replaced my 1976 Johnson 70 with this 115 neither one has a peehole/telltale sign. Could I remove the thermostat? What would be a good way to test my water impeller? Removing the thermostat housing? The only thing I know for sure is a decent test is when I start up on the hose it takes atleast 1-2 mins for all the water to drain out. Tia

If you do not know how old the impeller is then replace it.

Thanks will do. How about a year from now should I just drop the lower unit and replace it then too?

About every 5 years for a factory impeller.----And test the overheat horn at start of every season.
