Partially submerged Mercruiser Sterndrive

I have a 1996 Mercruiser Stern Drive mounted in a 1996 Bayliner. The engine sits rather low in the stern and as a result of 5 inches of rain and a burned out bilge pump, water filled the engine compartment up to the oil filter. I drained out the engine compartment and wiped off the contacts for the starter and other greased electrical connections. Other than removing and checking the oil filter for seepage, is there anything else I should check before attempting to start it?

remove the drive to check the bellows for trapped water. plan on replacing the starter
