Part # 43453 Block Off Plug Orientation

Hello
Removing the oil pump and oil pump drive shaft from 1989 200 hp.
Mercury part # fits in place of the oil pump drive shaft.
The shaft of the replacement plug has a definitive flat side. Was wondering which way this flat side faces. Have read that the flat edge faces the gear on the crankshaft, but need a little more clarification.

Could be wrong here but it appears if you look up inside the oil pump hole like seen in the video, it seems the shaft would only fit one-way by design,

Thanks for the response. Looking at the video I would say that the flat side faces to
the left? Is that what you are seeing as well?
I have also read elsewhere that the flat of the plug faces the crank, but it didn't seem to me that either orientation actually left the flat facing towards the crank shaft.
