Overheating

Today I replaced all three spark plugs, upon testing the motor with a water filled water trough, I noticed the motor was getting hot and seen some black soot in the water coming from the exhaust. Is there a way to tell if the impeller is bad without tearing it apart? I ordered a new one today I’m just seeing if I can diagnose the issue prior to tearing it apart. Thanks guys

Where is the water discharge location? So I could run and see if water is going through the system

Water MUST be 8" ABOVE the impeller when testing in a little tub.-----Install the new impeller !

Like Racerone said DEEP in a bucket 4-8" over the cavitation plate.
These pumps aren't made to draw water and only pump once the impeller is under water.
If you ran it long enough to get hot??? then the impeller is probably shot.
