overheating

Check your strainers for a start. Is the boat raw or freash water cooled? Check your hoses. How is the impeller on the pump? Have you refilled the system (fresh water cooled) and do you have an air bubble messing you up?

Look for an air leak in the hoses/ strainers going to the raw water pump. ANY air leak here will cause overheating.

And a loose drive belt ... it'd help if you tell us what you have and provide a little more detail; eg overheats only at 3000 rpm or idles fine but overheats in gear, etc).

Richard, I agree.... we need much more information from you.... Engine cooling configuration...... Closed System/ Open System, etc.
Also fully agree w/ Jeff on the issue of a suction leak. This is very commonly over-looked. One tiny tiny breach here can cause havic.
Next would be restrictions! Exhaust manifold "spent" sea water ports, for example.
