"I have a 1987 Bayliner Cuddy with a AQ131. This motor runs like a sewing machine but it overhaets while on plane. I have changed the impeller as well as the sea water screen, also the neck and hose on the outdrive. I also have had the o-ring and tube changed in the outdrive. I have had the haet exchanger off and apart to check and clean and all looks ok. I just had the exaust maniflod boiled but have not run it yet. I did run this boat in salt water but did flush it all the time. the boat sat for a couple years."

"Vernon, you may want to install a clear plastic hose on the suction side between the pipe in the transom shield and the copper pipe and look for bubbles when the boat is on the plane. If you see bubbles, chances are you have installed incorrectly the new hose connector gasket on the outdrive. That gasket has a ribbed area (basically a built-in o-ring) that has to fit between the tube and the intermediate housing casing, so when you tighten the two Allen screws it gets compressed and seals around the top of the tube. Of course, the Allen screws have to be well tightened.

If this is not the problem, then let us know and we'll discuss another course of action."

I had the problem before we changed the neck and the hose from the outdrive to the transom.I also had the o-ring and the tube changed in the outdrive.

"Vernon, that's all fine and dandy, but I think you are at a stage where you want to do something about it. The steps I indicated in the above post would be a good start. Alternatively, you can pressurize the suction line starting at the raw water pump suction pipe and see if you see water leaking somewhere (you will have to seal the grids in the outdrive with duct tape and plug the water drain under the grids as well)

Just my opinion.

Also, did you check for barnacles inside the grids?"
