"I have a 2005 merc 25hp w/ new water pump & new thermostat. Still notice hot water out of tell tale (apprx.160 degrees) Obviously cannot hold my hand under water stream. Took a heat gun & shot several areas around cylinder heads and exhaust cover and no readings came up above 150 degrees at 3/4 throttle after 5 minute run time. However, top area of block right behind & slightly underneight of flywheel measured 200 degrees as did the block directly on the other side of this area behind top cylinder ! However, you can put your hand & hold it on the exhaust cover plate & cylinder head and they only feel warm...Is this normal operation on this engine ? Do I have an overheating problem ?"
