Overheating Please Help

"I have an 89 mercury 150 on the back of a 20ft deck boat. It is overheating, I took to a local marina and they put a new water pump on it. But of course I am still having the issue. I can only run at quarter throttle but onces I go beyond that it automatically runs hot. No alarms sounds and I it will run all day but only at low trottle. Any thoughts on how to fix this??? please help"

"just a side note, i get plenty of water out of the pee hole and it is not extremely hot. Also, I run the motor for a long time and stil be able to hold my hand on the base of the motor without it being extremely hot."

"Bad gage? Try measuring it with an infrared, non-contact thermometer (a tool no boater should be without). THat way you'll know.

Lane check the overheat alarm

Lane check the overheat alarm does it work? your engine at idle and upto about 2200rpms would run 3\4 on the temp gauge then as you went faster the temp would drop right down when the poppet valve system opened.

NAPA, Harbor Freight, lots of places CHEAPER than a marina.
