Hello everybody,

I bought mid 2011 Two Mercury 50HP 4 STROKE EFI 50EFI ELPT 4

One run perfectly.
the other one has to be turn off after 20 mn of use
Overheating is the problem.

Impeller? engine is 38 hours at the hour-meter and this problem occur almost the first week of use.
Water pump impeller ? Yes , there is something on that side.

On idle speed after 90 seconds I got 5 liters of circulating water.(I checked with a bucket)
With the second engine 4.4 l only so 10 % less water.

Of course at sea and strictly the same conditions.

Is this 10% less water make the engine overheating ?

any experience or idea?

Thank you in advance.
( I know,I should contact the Mercury dealer who sold and install but ...it is another story)

If you are collecting this water from the telltale that it is not a very good test.---------Visit the dealer before damage is done !

Of course I do not get water from the tale put from water stream at the exhaust passage.

WE removed the impeller and we an see it is broken. I ned to change it and will back to yo if the problem is resolved.

But as http://www.marineengine.com is our host it would be elegant to support them with my patronage even they do not carry the OEM.
I order the after-market model Sierra.

I saw somewhere we have to put grease when changing the impeller.
What kind of grease is it?
Thank you by anticipation.

Thank you I follow your advice liquid soap.

To keep members update

Overheating problem has not been set even if I had to change the impeller.

In fact problem came from the thermostat , blocked with sand, salt and seeds.

I cleaned with vinegar and everything backed to normal.

Thank you everyone
