I have a 2003 200hp mercury carberated motor. I just had it rebuilt due to overheating. It is still overheating especially after new water pump. replaced seals in midsection as well. Mechanic said there was a water flow interuption under the boat. Took off strainer it did not overheat for him. I took it out and it overheated again. Mechanic is authorized mercury dealer. Any leads

"Hi there,

Is it getting enough oil?

Why did you initially re-build it? What was the cause of failure? Could be that the original cause was never recified...

Have you tried running it on muffs for a while to see if the overheat issue persists?

Keep us posted.

Regards,

Benjamin."

The motor overheated and created a hole in the cyl. on the top starboard side. The mech. said that he replaced a gasket in the mid section that was blown out as well. That was the suspect in the initial failure. On muffs I was told it was good by the mech. Under load is the issue. it seems to overheat faster at higher RPM. I have place 2 gal. of oil in the 90 gal tank. The fuel filters have been replaced (water separater and on engine). The mech.came by today and put a plate that is designed to add water preasure to the intake. I took the boat out today and it overheated again. I limped back to the dock and removed the plugs on a hunch. 2 of 6 were normal. 2 of 6 had oil residue on them 1 of 6 had some fouling/carbon on it 1 was bent in. The plugs should only have 3 or so hours (new at rebuild). Please respond with suggestions. CIJ

Bent plug is usually death. I do not know about overheating, but a holed piston is from the pinging. Whaterver ign. switch box or module is bad."
