Hi all -- thank you in advance for your help.
I have a 9.8 Merc outboard that I just purchased as a backup engine on a boat that I just purchased that has a 2nd engine mount. Anyways, I wanted to test it yesterday on the water. It started right up, kicked into gear fine, but it overheated in about 2-3 minutes at most.
I think the number is 326361 on the motor. Probably from the 70s? Any thoughts at what I should take a look at 1st?
I purchased it just to get me back to a boat ramp in case of main engine failure or for small horse power lakes. It was pushing a 17ft. fiberglass bass boat, older model and probably pretty heavy.
Thoughts?
