I have a 50 hp 2 stroke on a 21 foot tracker pontoon. This engine constantly overheats at least every couple miles sometime less than 1000feet. NO ONE have been able to correct it. Shaft extention 824072A3 adding 2and 3/4 to shaft would get it down below air and bubbles caused by propeller. Anybody have similar problems. I am at wits end as this has been ongoing since new with no repair or help from Mercury Marine.

"Pontoons can cause some unique rigging challenges, because outboards were meant to be mounted on a transom.

On a toon, the cavitation plate on the lower unit should be in line with the lowest edge of the pontoon itself. If it's mounted too high you end up sucking air, or very disturbed water and she will overheat.

Without seeing your exact set-up it's difficult to say whether or not that is a factor.

Additionally, all that overheating certainly isn't good either.

Any chance you can post a picture to help determine if you have a rigging problem or just a lemon of a motor?

Something kinda eye-level showing the lower end of the motor in relation to the pontoons at the back of the boat...."
