I have a 1992 90 hp Johnson. I

I have a 1992 90 hp Johnson. It's been sitting outdoors for approx 2 mos in central NC. Nice day today so I hooked it up to the hose. Started right up but after about 3 min the overheat alarm went off. Let it sit for about 30 min and tried again. Ran it for 30 min with no problem. I'm hoping something was clogged up from sitting and got cleared out after running. Does that sound like a reasonable explaination? Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks!
Bob

"Thanks for the responses. Note, this motor already has the tell tale. Ran it again and no alarm. I did notice that the water from the tell tale stream never seems to get warm. Isn't it supposed to be warm?"

"Ummm...

I lived just north of Charlotte for 25 years.
I had my motor stored for over one season...longer than a year.
I started it on muffs, and it overheated.
To make a long story short, I had a mud dauber wasp build a nest in my block. I hear they go in the telltale and make it home.
Run a 100 lb test piece of nylon fishing line in the pee-er and really rout it out. Back flush.
Repeat.

Just a thought."

well how about the location of the pee hole exit from eng is it at the top of the motor?........it should be.

and yes dirt dobbers are one of your worst enemies ..............wasps, hornets, bees, yellow jackets, etc.....will sting you , some people they will hospitilize. dirt dobbers on the other hand go after any crevice/orifice they can find costing you money.............so which is worse the one that makes you cuss for a minute or worse have to get a shot............or the politicians------ooops i meant the dirt dobbers who do the sneak attack and cost you money?"

that water will not be warm...

that water will not be warm.....it is located in the wrong place in my opinion...the output to the p-hole is before the water does its cooling bit for the engine...
