im new to this, so here it goes.. I have a 1998 sea ray with 5.7 w/alpha 1 gen 2 out drive. I recently put NEW motor ,NEW exhaust manifolds and risers, new water pump, and thermostat in it. the engine idles fine with water temp about 160. slow speed and cruising the temperature is fine. WOT it over heats to 200 degrees. I have pulled the water hose coming from outdrive and it flows PLENTY of water, BUT I noticed if my outdrive is completely in water (like at idle) it pumps GREAT If I raise the boat on boat lift to where the planning plate is on out drive(as if I am on plane) I get little to no water being pumped. Any help or suggestions would be great! thanks

Ayuh,... You say a new water pump,..?? The Impeller pump,..?? or circulatin' pump,..??

If the latter, change out the Impeller pump,...

Run it on the water for a real test.

A new raw water pump? Did you replace the whole pump or just the impeller?

I replaced water pump on the motor and whole water pump in outdrive (housing and impeller) I feel like im not getting a good seal around the water pump because the pump is above the water line on outdrive when the boat is on plane. As long as the whole outdrive is submerged in water it works and flows plenty of water, when I get on plane the little bit of water flow I get (I think) comes from the speed of the boat forcing it in.

Ayuh,.... Pull the lower, 'n recheck the impeller pump,...

It sounds like it's suckin' air, probably from bad alignment of the housin',...

I have the exact same problem. I put a clear hose going to my thermostat housing to see if I am getting air in the system. Will test it out at the lake in a couple of days.

Mine seems to cool correctly at RPM's under 3300, but anything over that rate, it starts to get hot. Did your original motor burn up from over heating?
