Outdriver removal

"My BF and i bought a used late 70's Columbian with a volvo 140 engine and a 280 outdrive, the outdrive was off the boat when we bought it, we tried putting it back on and it got stuck about 1/4" from being on all the way, now it won't go forward and it doesn't want to come off either, anyone have any ideas?"

"Where is it stuck? Other than

"Where is it stuck? Other than the u-joint yoke splines being dirty/rusty or in bad condition, or not sliding the yoke into the primary shaft spline, I cannot see many reasons for having a problem installing the outdrive. You may have forced the u-joint between the bellhousing and the primary shaft if the yoke did not slide into the primary shaft spline."
