Hello everyone.
Here is my issue. I completed a bellows and shift cable replacement over the weekend on a alpha one mercruiser outdrive. I had a few broken bolts on the trim sensors which I need to figure out how to take out but that's small potatoes for now.
I re-installed the drive. it went in up until about 2 inched left to mate with the bell housing. At that point I moved the wrong way and broke my gasket and noticed my drive was in neutral. So I attempted to remove the outdrive once again but it just won't come out. the only think I can figure is the splines are jammed into the back of the motor and holding in really tight. I tried to get it to come out by lifting the drive up and letting it fall down just like I did to remove it initially but that doesn't work at all. I tried to use wooden wedges on the top of the case were it meets the bell housing but there is so little contact area that I can't get a good seat. I tried just below the drive shaft tube and the wedge just breaks apart.
I read a thread about putting a piece of wood between the cap and ring but I'm not sure where that is since the terminology in the service manual is different.
Can anyone help me. I don't want to use steel wedges as I will ruin the contact surface and the drive. There must be a way to get this thing loose again.
I can see the spline in the back of the engine when I squeeze my body by the transom but I can't do anything to move it since the prop spins freely at this point.
Thanks.
