"This has probably been discussed many times before on this forum but I couldn't find a definitive answer. The manual for my 4.3L OMC states the outdrive should be down (in)for winter dry storage. Another source says to have it up (out) for dry storage to relieve pressure on hydraulic pump and lines. Which is it, up or down? I have it down now to drain all the water out but was going to place it in the up position during the expected cold days ahead here in Central Texas."

"Ayuh,.....

Down is Better.

"Ayuh,.....

Down is Better......

The Hydrulics Don't Care,.....Beside the fact that the Hyd.s are Unloaded in the Down position.....
But,....
A lower unit housing catching Water,... Will Care....
And,.....
It keeps the Bellows straight, instead of stressed/ stretched in the Up position......"

"Down. Why? 'Cause it's better to let the bellows take a set in the position you run in and, as stated above, it keeps water from collecting and cracking the housing.
