Outdrive Setting

Hello all. My boat is a 24 ft Savage Ranger, fitted with twin AQ115B engines driving 100B outdrives. I have messed around with toe in and pitch angle but still get a lot of starboard helm. I think toe in is supposed to be 5deg per leg.

Can anybody give me advice on best set up please?

regards, Bob (Brisbane Australia)

Bob, when you think of "tow in/tow out" think of the leading side. In other words, imagine that we are looking for "tow out" FWD of the stern, of which is actually "tow in" at the AFT end of the stern drives (where we take the measurement).

If adjusting twin stern drives, we shoot for what the industry calls "tow out".
If adjusting the front tires/wheels on a car/truck, we shoot for "tow in".

Here is an example:

Are the drives set up for counter rotation?
Also, which hole is the cross pin on the transom shield set in? It should be in the hole that most nearly has the prop axis parallel to the bottom of the hull. On most boats, this is the center hole.

Thank you both. Yes, I see it should be “toe out”. The props are not counter rotating unfortunately, so I could be getting some “P” factor. I have the legs set in the 3rd hole. I was told the previous owner got a lot more speed out of the boat than I get, which is about 20knots at 3600rpm.

Yes... as long as you understand that the Center-to-Center dimension will be less at the props!

The AQ series drives are very easy to reverse the prop shaft rotation. Ask how if you want help doing so.

When you say 3rd hole....... are you talking about the AFT most hole?

Most AQ series without Tilt/Trim will be using the center "set pin" hole.
If the boat gets up on step easily..... then you may want to stick with furthest hole AFT.
