I am considering the purchase of an older boat that has a Mercruiser 140 inboard and a Mercruiser 3.0 Litre out drive.
The seller says he recently had it tuned up... but... When it started, and it started right away, it idled fine. When putting it into gear it died. over and over. That could be just a shade tree tune up that needs some adjustment. My bigger concern is that I noticed a bit of oil dripping onto the ground. It appeared to be coming from the out drive near the transom, not from the exhaust or the drain plug. It appears to be just a small drip but I have to wonder how big of a deal it may be. Over the 20 or 30 minutes of trying to run it, the puddle was about softball size.
If it matters the boat is a 1984 four winns Marquise 170
