"I've seen this thing on a few web sites and was wondering if anyone has any experience with them it looks like a piece of stainless about 1/2 inch diameter that is attached to the antiventalation plate and while in motion it sparys freshwater on the out drive. i will be pulling alot of water toys this summer and was wondering if ya'll thought that it would be a good idea to install one. or is it just a waste of time and money.????

It's a drive shower that keeps a constant shower of water on the OD while underway to cool it. It can't hurt to use one.

but i was wondering if its act

but i was wondering if its actually cost effective. is it worth the money to build one or buy one for what its going to do. i mean the out drive is completely submerged when stopping due to the extra motor weight. opps i forgot to say that i have a 180hp motor now instead of the original 140hp and the weight difference is about 75 lbs so it sits a litle lower in the water now.....

"Since the engine was changed

"Since the engine was changed from 140 to 180 hp, maybe someone on this board can tell you if the original gear ratio in the OD is still matched to the 180 hp if the gearing was not changed. For $142 you can think of it as an insurance policy since you plan to run the boat alot."

"A.they work.
B.its a high performance thing.(you don't need it)
C.ratio is different.
D.spend your money on the impeller.
E.spend leftover money on engine paint, and paint the head."

"The world is full of rubgoldberg gadgets intended to relieve you of your cash. This is one of them. Spend your money on chrome knobs, 710 caps, luvered oil pans and dont forget the cow magnet for the fuel line."

ok ty for the input and i alre

ok ty for the input and i already bought the prop cause the 140 one was way too small. had to go from a 19 pitch to a 21 pitch and still had to go with a 23 pitch. man those stainless props are expensive......

"I think some people here are

"I think some people here are a little cynical. I think the drive shower was invented for use in higher horsepower motors. What happens is while you are up and running at high rpms for hours your drive oil will heat up. The drive shower keeps the metal outdrive case cooler, which keeps the oil cooler. Honestly a few degrees in temperature can make a huge difference in whether you oil fails or not. If you get chalky white deposits on your outdrive you might need a drive shower."
