outdrive chatter 1986 350

Just bought an 86 sea ray, 350 merc. The outdrive has a chatter that is constant. Seems to run fine. I read that someone said the prop shaft was spining faster than gears?? Also very hard to shift from forward to neut and reverse to nuet. Shift interrupt switch?

Hows the outdrive oil?

This hard shifting is it only on the water ?

What rpm is the motor at warm in the water in gear?

Remove the lower cable off the shift converter and shift it ,easy to shift? If yes then it's the lower cable went.

Oil is ok.

Shifts hard only when the engine is running and in the water.

Rpm is around 800-850.

Iam going to drop the rpm a little, I will also try your suggestion.

Theres more here, first time i read your original post, i missed stuff.

Explain more about the chatter, it's there on the water on the trailer what?
