I was wondering how cold of lake water is to cold to run an outboard motor in? The tempreture around here has been between 15 f to 37f this coming weekend suppose to get to 50 would like to take the boat out for a test run.

"Jerry, like Tom says in a round about way, as long as the water is open, it's not too cold.

But there is a couple of things you should do/be careful of.

First, if you run mixed gas (gas/oil) make sure it is well mixed. If it's in a portable tank, give it a real good shake. With a built in tank you are a little more limited but a bumpy drive in on the trailer or giving the boat a good shake helps.

Second, it the air temp gets to freezing either keep the motor in the water or if you do take it out, don't leave it tilted - keep it straight up and down (normal down position) so that water can drain out. You don't want trapped water to freeze and crack something...."
