Outboard ID

Hello all

I have Johnson 40 hp outboard with data tag missing. Serial number on cup plug is
G3573088 how can I find the year & model with this info.

According to my Johnson serial number list it should be a 1971 or 1972. But I don't think that is correct. The "G" series seems to have a different list of numbers. I'm thinking somewhere late 1980's to 2000. How about a picture?

Somebody please tell me if "G" means it was made in Georgia.

Many folks can instantly identify the year with a picture of the cowling and other parts.-----Unless of course these parts have been painted many times.
