I recently purchased a used Mercury outboard and can find no stickers or labels indicating who the original selling Mercury dealer was. Is there any way, by using the motor's serial number of finding out where the outboard was originally sold? ANY HELP WILL BE APPRECIATED. THANKS.

It depends on if, when, & how the engine was registered when sold new.

For some basic information let's take a look, What is the serial number?

Also it would be needed to ask what's the reason you need this info? Keeping in mind there are newer/stronger privacy laws in effect now.;)

You may need to call mercury marine with the serial number for detailed information though, as i know they are pretty picky as to what they will tell you.

I may have a problem. A while ago, I power washed my outboard and washed off the sticker with the serial number from the tilt hinge. I do have the number with my sales papers. Is there another place on the motor where I can match the two if and when I want to sell it.? Thanks ...BF

There should be a number stamped on the freeze plug and the lower lip of the block that is also the SR# for that motor. They should be the same as on the sale sheet you have.

Have fun boating and BE SAFE,
