Optimax 90 issue

Hi! Have a Optimax 90, 2013 mod. Approx run hours is 300. Recently changed the lower unit. Had a crack in it, but motor worked fine before chaning lower unit. Bought a used and recently serviced lower unit, and replaced the old one.

First trip on the sea, everything OK. Next trip i think i heard 3-4 beeps om the startup. When running the engine everything was ok, but on the way back the RPM dropped to 4000rpm. And now i cannot get above 4000rpm. Doesent beep on startup again. Oil level is almost full, gas is filled up with new gas, gasfilter changed last year, and cooling water looks good.

Any ideas?

Not sure how the 90 is set up (I know this to be true for the 225) but if the under cowl tank is full and you still get the alarm, the sensor is most likely bad. Merc used magnets on the float for the oil level sensor, common problem is for the magnets to fall off the float, sink to the bottom of the sensor, and make it think it is empty

On the 225 the answer was change the under cowl oil tank because the sensor was part of it. Was a rather simple job.

Would have to look at a parts diagram for your engine.

Refill new tank with oil. When removing the old try to keep the lines pointed up when you remove them to keep oil in them. If you want extra insurance with key on and engine off shift from N to F 5 times quickly to activate the break-in oil delivery. It will add additional oil for like 10 hours then return to normal
