Only have half power 1980 9.9 hp

I have a 1980 9.9hp suzuki motor which will only
get to half its power when throttle is full on. Can anyone tell me where to start looking to try to solve this problem please...

"Warren it would be best for you to purchase a manual on your outboard and get familiar with the carburetor and cleaning methods. First Check your fuel filter. Cleaning the jet involves removing the carb, and then removing the float bowl to get access to the main jet. good luck"
