"I've also had luck with sea-way.com, as they are the owner of ALL old OMC parts. Apparently Bombardier bought out the warehouses for OMC.I found this out when trying to order a resistor for my 67 225 Buick."

"Thanks for the information. I noticed on the web site that there are 7 folders for 1987 3.0 Liter engines. How do I know which one is mine?

Thanks for any help.

I had the same situation when

I had the same situation when I first started. Evidently there are a number of models available. I could not identify my model because I believe the model number is on the engine if it is an OMC Engine and mine was not. I just check all models when needing a part making sure they had the same Part#. Most of the time they were. The one thing you have going for you is the drive didn't change much within a particular model year.

"Those 7 folders are the 7 specific engine model numbers they produced that year for the 3.0 You should be able to find the OMC model number on your engine and match it up exactly to one of those 7. In some cases the only difference might be one has power steering and another doesn't or one might have a 4 bbl carb (V6/V8) and another has a 2 bbl, etc."

I have a 1979 Deck Craft with a 140 OMC and tru-course steering. The steering cable was taken off before I bought the boat. I have found a tru-course steering cable but I think I'm missing a couple of parts. Since it was torn down before I saw it I really need to see diagrams of how the system is put together so that I can obtain the remaining parts and put it together. Copies of a manual that shows the steering setup would help greatly. CLYMER doesn't show it. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

"Buster...follow these steps for exploded parts diagrams

go to http://epc.brp.com/login.aspx?ReturnUrl=%2fdefault.aspx%3fbrands%3dej%26lang%3de &brands=ej&lang=e&AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1

then hit the View Parts Catalogs
then under products select SD Accessories
Scroll down the list and select 1979
scroll down the list and select Tru-Course Steering
if it's parts at the drive end then you will have to go back and select Stern Drive and then the year and model, etc"

With Boatin-Bob's help I got good info on the the tru-course steering cable layout and installation. The one thing I still need is info about how to get the steering shaft out of the stern drive to hook up the steering cable without tearing the stern drive completely down. Any help would be appreciated.( 1979 OMC 400 Stringer 140 hp )
Thanks

I just purchased an 83 Starfir

I just purchased an 83 Starfire 260 hp stern drive with tru-course steering. When on plane it is almost impossible to turn the boat in either direction. At slow speeds it is just fine. Any ideas what the problem might be?
