I have Remove the Motor for the Trim/Tilt

IT was so greasy and dirty the contact was black. everything was black and greasy.. i clean it up perfectly and air dry everything.. well

From what i remember. Should there be some kind of magnetic field or something where it should been a little difficult to put the Armature back into the Field Coil??

I put the armature back Field Coil. but did not fell any resistance at all. NOTHING. it just set there.. i try the motor and it Spin really good. but when i put everything back. the Out-drive still will not move. Just click click.. I know its not the Solenoid.

. i think the motor is bad.. because i remember when i put the armature back on any kind of this motor there should be some kind of resistant . but NOTHING


Also. can it be TIlt CLutch problem or any CLutch plate.. ?? its really weird...
i have remove the Tilt CLutch cover and clean it up with Brake part cleaner and remove all that crap out. then i let it stay dry overnight so the sealer will dry up before i put some oil.. the next morning i put oil. and i tested it it will not work any more.... i have two of them tilt cluch cuz i have two engine.. its just weird that both of them dont work any more. all it does is click....

also i have just order 1 Titl Clutch from ebay.. iam going to see if that make any different before i buy another one... just incase if this motor is not the problem..

do you guys think if i let the tilt clutch stay dry it will not work any more or create some kind of a problem. remember the tilt clutch plate is very close together maybe it got stock>>> i let the oil set there for about 2 days now . and still the same problem..

Also the hammer-blow coupling. i made sure it had some play. so the motor could get a change to spin a little before it crab all that heavy load of my outdrive...

But did not put greese . u just added oil and let it set for few hours or days

I don't really know what your working on but I had the same problem a couple weeks ago. That is with the click click. Turned out that trying to use gasket sealer didn't leave clearance for the clutch pack shaft to spin. Just the thickness of the gasket I cleaned off was enough to bind the shaft between the housing and cover. In a pinch I used an over sized o-ring and it works fine now. And as far as the field resistance I think the motors too small for that. Mine was choked with corrosion and all it took was a good cleaning and off it went. I was also able to test my motor with out it being mounted. Just plug it in and make sure you ground it to the block somewhere and have someone hit the switch. You should put some nuts on the mounting bolts to hold it together first

above is a thread same problem as yours. give it a read. PLEASE READ IT CAREFULLY !

A little extra: First the gaskets for the cover are really " Shims " and are called that in most manuals, they are there for the clearance they give to the clutch pack shaft so it doesn't bind, and can be made out out of gasket material bought at any auto store, use 2, and do not over tighten the four bolts / screws that hold the cover on.

You tested the clutch with the cover off?

One other thing do not ever run the motor with the drive anywhere but FULLY down, ever. And water going to the drive.

i have try that instruction provided a while a ago.. and no luck.. both of my engine is doing the exact same thing.. I even try to put direct connection from battery to the Motor. so it could have full power to the motor.. but still dont work. its actually stock

What i would do is remove the 3 bolts that hold the half moon gear and lift the drive and jam / tie up the drive.

Remove the tilt clutch pack cover and drain it again.

Remove the " c " clip that holds the small gear that powers the half moon gear.

Remove the small tilt shaft plate if equipped " 3 small screws / bolts. Some have a " c " clip instead: hence the reason i asked the year.

Remove the guts of the tilt clutch.

Soak the clutch pack in acetone, overnight. or take the pack apart i used a vice and a pipe.

inspect everything, the worm gear good broke?

The hammerblow coupler broke? have to remove the motor again. You did use a gasket on the motor didn't you.

There is a rebuild kit just for the tilt housing.

In my mind something is jammed, broke, or the motor is gone.

All is available on ebay.

Both tilts went at the same time?

If you elect to take apart the clutch pack lay it out exactly as you remove each disk and then clean each one. put it back together exactly the same way you took it apart.

"Raul, I'd put money on the fact that because you didn't use a gasket that thats the problem. loosening the motor won't relieve pressure on the clutch pack shaft. Remove the clutch and try the lift motor. Let us know.."

both of my motor has same problem..

i think the motor is just tired. i order 1 motor and its coming this friday octover 16, i will install it and lets see what happen.. if its not the motor. sh!t out of luck. i just hope its the motor man.."

Just for giggles look at the little gear that powers the half moon gear, is there a plastick plug in end of the shaft?

If yes that plug comes out and you can turn the screw with a allen wrench, see it controls the clutch pack.

You should have a fully mechanical shift."
