OMC Tilt Warning Kit

I've got an '84 OMC 3.8L w/outdrive. Just had to have the ball gear set replaced. Mechanic said that the damage was probably caused by running the outdrive in a partially tilted position. I see that MarineEngine has a "Tilt Warning Kit" for sale. Looks like a decent item to remind low experience drivers about this issue. Does anyone have any experience with this kit? Is it a do-it-yourself installation? Is it mounted external to , or through, the transom?

you could just tape the repair bill to the dashboard. I haven't actually ever seen that kit, but it looks really simple and cool for the $50 or whatever with a flasher and a lamp. I can't figure where that button switch would mount, but it has that one locknut that says "switch to intermediate"... so my guess is it mounts through the threaded allen plug that is in the intermediate sort of near the ball gears. If that's the case then the wires would come through on the inside and there would be no holes to drill or wires to seal - that's a guess though.
