I have johnson 175h.p.(200

I have johnson 175h.p.(2002).Tach went to 6500 and stuck there.Engine was only running about 2500 at the time.I found chafed wire at coils and repaired but tach is stuck at 4k after removal from dash. Is it toast or can I recalibrate? thanks

"The tach reading will stay at its last reading if no voltage is applied. When voltage is applied, the needle should return to zero..... however this does not confirm that the tach is okay. You would need to install it to a engine that is in perfect running condition to confirm it's true condition.

You can check the retuirn to zero portion simply by applying 12 volts to the purple and black wire, the purple wire being the positive (+v) voltage lead."
