"As I said before I have a 1973 imp aztec. with a 307 225 h.p. electric shift. I also have a nice mercruiser complete set up with trim pumps and all. has anyone ever tried to swap these and what is required. I know that a will have to redo the transom of the boat and make it smaller, that is not a big deal. I just dont know if everything else will be compatable or if they sell a kit or something. the mercruiser drive is bolted on a 302 188 h.p.mercruiser now
and bolted in a cabin cruiser we are getting ready to scrap. the motor and outdrive was just rebuilt that is why I am asking. thank you"

"the kit is a big sheet of plywood.
You gut the hull, removing anything and everything related to the OMC drive including steering.
Then you close in the transom and recut the transom to Mercruiser cutout shape the same way a new boat builder would.
Then you install everything from the Mercruiser donor boat including steering, gauges, trim system etc.
After doing all that work, the last thing you would want to install is a lethargic old 188 with a Ford powerplant.
You would look for a nice mercruiser 260 setup.
You would sorely miss the 37HP going to that Ford."

"not really - you would need a chevy/mercruiser bellhousing, engine mounts, exhaust manifolds, Y pipe, and about a hundred other fiddly little parts.
But if you got a 305 Chevrolet powered Mercruiser setup you could use the 307 with that no problem.
Externally a pre-1987 305 is the same engine as a 307. The differences are internal."
