OMC Remote Control Interchange

Hello. I have a question about the Omc control boxes and how interchangeable there parts are. I currently have a black remote control w/o trim mounted on my boat. I am mounting a different motor this weekend that has trim. The motor came with a white control box and the trim cable routes out the bottom of the handle. I was wondering if it’s possible to just swap the handles from these 2 boxes?

I have not looked at the pins on the plugs yet, they are both red plugs though. Is there any difference I should look for on the plugs besides the pins?

A couple reasons why I was thinking about doing this. The high speed idle lever on the white control doesn’t work, I am thinking something is broken inside. Swapping handles would allow me to leave everything routed through the boat.

The black box is from a 1994 motor and the white one is from a 1989.

Thanks in advance!

attached are pics of the remotes I am referring to in the original post.

If they are both '95 or earlier (with the round red engine plug) then they are fully interchangeable.
Simply use the newer one & just tie off the trim harness. Don't disable (as in cut off the wires) or swap the handle. Best to leave a complete & fully functional control as is.
