1975 sabercraft, with 120 electric shift. The outdrive model number on the ID plate on the upper geacase is 980702, serial number 57305. I can't find that model number in the OMC model guides anywhere I have looked. maybe whoever stamped the numbers was severely dyslexic? 990207 shows up for 1974? It i9s mid seventies vintage because all the parts I have ordered work just fine and the parts diagrams look perfect for the 1974 model.

990207 is indeed a model number of a 1974 165HP engine/drive package. But, if you looked on the upper gearcase of that 1974 drive you would not find the number 990207. You would find some other six digit number that was never referenced outside the factory. Just like the model number on yours, those upper gearcase model numbers do not appear in service manuals or in any model references. They mean nothing.

If you want to find your engine/drive model number, look on the engine. It would have originally been on the valve cover.

However, if you already know your year is 1975, and the HP is 120... you can order parts or consult proper service manuals based on that... the specific model number only affects 3 or 4 parts which can be identified by other means.

Not unusual to have a year earlier setup installed in a boat. Example: such as yours.
Your actually lucky, i have a bunch of parts for the drive in my basement. They were going into the dumpster, i have 2 ball gears connected to the thru hull driveshafts with all the bearings and shims and bearing carriers pulled from a setup as yours.
Actually 2 of almost everything.
2 complete guts of the tilt clutch housings, alot of other stuff. I have the complete dist. of a 120hp / 2.5 alt. pulleys and everything else a person can strip off a omc 120 / 2.5 hp motor.
